PRAYING FOR MY BELOVED CRC MEMBERS & CALVIN COLLEGE et al to NOT ACQUIESCE TO FAR-LEFT LIBERALISM TO TRY TO BE ‘COOL’:

JESUS SAID: “I pray not that thou should take them out of the world, but that thou should keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

And for their sakes ..."

MEN'S LACROSSE
Adrian 13, Calvin 12 (OT)

ADRIAN, Mich. - In sight of its first conference victory since 2013, the Calvin men's lacrosse team dropped an agonizing 13-12 overtime decision at Adrian College Saturday afternoon.

Calvin (5-9 overall, 0-5 MIAA) held a 12-11 lead inside the final two minutes of regulation but Adrian (1-12 overall, 1-4 MIAA) was able to score the equalizer on a shot with just 1:32 remaining.

Adrian pressed for the winning goal in the closing seconds but Calvin freshman goaltender Tristian Parece (Kelowna, BC/Kelowna Secondary School) came up with a clutch save to send the game into sudden-death overtime.

Calvin was whistled for a 30-second penalty with 2:40 left in overtime and as the penalty was about to expire, the Bulldogs whipped in the game-winning goal.

Calvin claimed a 6-2 lead after one quarter of play as sophomore Michael Winkler (La Quinta, Ca./Palm Desert HS) and junior Chris Griffin (Hartland/Hartland HS) scored two goals each in the quarter.

Sophomore Ethan Brown (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth HS) put the Knights up 7-2 just 10 seconds into the second quarter but Adrian responded with five unanswered goals to make the score 7-6.

A late second quarter tally by Griffin allowed Calvin to take an 8-6 halftime lead.

The Knights went up 11-6 in the third quarter on goals by freshman Noah Nedd (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS), Griffin and freshman Austin Bontreger (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian HS).

Calvin's attack then stalled while Adrian continued to come back, scoring three goals to trail 11-9 heading into the fourth quarter.

Adrian came up with a pair of goals in the first 5:02 of the fourth quarter to tie the game 11-11.

Neither team scored again until sophomore Nate Ray (Northville/Northville HS) broke loose for his 38th goal of the season, scoring on an assist from Bontreger with 6:10 remaining.

Calvin attempted three shots over the next three minutes in an attempt to widen its lead but could not find the back of the net the rest of the way.

"Learning to win is a process," said Calvin men's lacrosse coach Luke Griemsman. "We have a lot of young athletes playing very important roles. As this program continues to grow I know these young men will become more experienced. As we gain experience, we will be better. The future with this program is bright."

CALVIN KNIGHT SPORTS REPORT FOR APRIL 22, 2016

Women’s Tennis Wins at Adrian;
Track and Field Teams Compete at Al Owens Classic

BASEBALL
Alma 2, Calvin 1 (8 innings)
Alma 8, Calvin 0

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin baseball team dropped both ends of a home doubleheader Friday afternoon, falling to the Alma Scots 2-1 and 8-0.

In the opener, Alma (19-10 overall, 10-8 MIAA) claimed the win in extra-innings as Scot starter Alex Valasek outdueled Calvin freshman Jonathan Keane (Brookfield, Wisc./Brookfield Central HS).

Keane tossed shutout ball through five innings, extending his shutout streak to 12 innings dating back to last week. Keane was staked to a 1-0 lead on an two-out RBI double down the left-field line by Calvin sophomore Nate DeZwaan (Holland/Holland Christian HS). The double brought home junior Mike Kempton (Edwardsburg/Edwardsburg HS) who reached base on a two-out walk.

Valasek did not allow another hit until the bottom of the sixth, retiring 10 of the next 11 Calvin hitters.

Alma meanwhile tied the game in the top of the sixth on a hit and a pair of Calvin errors. Keane was able to escape further damange by inducing the Scots into a home-to-first double-play with the bases loaded and then getting an inning-ending groundout.

Calvin (10-20 overall, 6-12 MIAA) nearly won the game in the bottom of the seventh as Kempton walked and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by DeZwaan. With two outs, freshman pinch-hitter Ryan Lang (Bedford, NH/Bedford HS) dropped a looper just over third base that went foul by a foot with Kempton racing home on the play. Lang then popped up to third to end the Calvin threat.

Alma broke through in the top of the eighth, using a walk, a passed ball and a pair of base hits to score the go-ahead run.

With one out, senior Jordan VanderWall (Wyoming/South Christian HS) singled to right with one out but was erased moments later on a game-ending double-play on a hard ground ball hit to third by Calvin freshman Steven Seager (Plantation, FL/Plantation HS).

VanderWall had two of Calvin's three hits to extend his hitting streak to 17 games. Keane took the hard-luck loss to fall to 2-3 on the year.

With the momentum of a game one win, Alma broke loose for 13 hits in game two to roll to the win.

Calvin had six hits in defeat including three off the bat of sophomore Ryan Stewart (Detroit/Parkway Christian HS). Seager also had two hits in defeat. Freshman Spencer Yahrmarkt (Sanford/Meridian HS) took the loss for Calvin to fall to 1-3 on the season.

Calvin and Alma are scheduled to resume the four-game series on Monday with a doubleheader at Klenk Park. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Knights fell short on Wednesday afternoon to Trine on the softball diamond. Trine took game one 4-1 and edged Calvin in eight-innings in the second game, 4-3. The Calvin softball team now stands at 12-10 on the year and is now 2-4 in MIAA play.

"We had our opportunities today," said Calvin head coach Tim Syrek. "Trine is a very good team. We were right there again today and we were just unable to get the job done when we needed to at times. I think there are some positives that will come out of today and we will continue to improve."

The Knights and Thunder found themselves in a defensive battle in game one with both defenses keeping the runs off the scoreboard.

Freshman Anna Gernant (West Des Moines, IA/Valley HS) got herself out of a jam in the second inning, striking out Emily White to leave runners on second and third base for Trine.

Trine scored first, grabbing a run in the fifth inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Thunder would add to their lead in the sixth inning, adding three more runs.

A three-run fourth inning for the Thunder erased the Calvin lead.

The Knights took advantage of a Trine error in the fifth inning. After a throwing error advanced freshman Rachel Borden (Edwardsbug/Edwardsburg HS) to third base, sophomore Jessica Brasser (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) sent Borden home with a single to centerfield.

Story about the two daughters of Jim and Lisa (korf) Klunder (eagles 84 & 85)

Wow time really flies ! Lisa korf was my classmate at Christian high in Grand Rapids and I remember Jim being one year older also at Christian high. And then Lisa went on to Calvin College where she was again in my class not in actually any of my classes but same year, and Jim went off to hope college. And I never dated Lisa. Actually she asked me out in high school once on a special occasion. But nothing really beyond that. I've always admired her from afar. Nonetheless Lisa and Jim got married and I hadn't haven't seen them since probably 1989 or so. Correction, in 1991 I actually saw Lisa at Doug's funeral . I don't think she was married yet at that time. several years later I drove across the country on one of my mission trips and left a Bible in her mailbox and I think that caused some concern after another Christian high classmate got upset about me leaving a Bible for her in traverse city. The other gal called around and ask others about it and then this other gal begin to get this wild fiction in her mind that I had some kind of crazy thing for blonde girls from Christian High School haha. I remember writing a letter to somebody about it saying that these gals represented in my mind "Christian sisters" and I really had no romantic interest in them at least not anymore . (Although I don't know if either of them are actually strongly Christian anymore if they ever were) I think that disappointed them.

Anyways it's hard to believe that their two daughters actually are almost finished with college already.

"
Last winter, Jim and Lisa Klunder took a look at the women's soccer schedules at Grand Valley State and Spring Arbor and realized something amazing was possible with their daughters.
