HELLO CALVIN STUDENTS,
i am a former Calvin Student, and recently noticed a little article in the Chimes about the LGBT community...I didn't read the article , and barely caught the title, but I am GUESSING that it is about trying to be kind and tolerant and seemingly "nice" things like that... ;
I am NOT saying that you should gay-bash, God Forbid..., but NEITHER should you accomodate what is wrong in God's eyes.
Unfortunately, growing up in Grand Rapids MI ( I am an "Eagle-Knight" , ie GR Christian High & Calvin, but long gone from west Michigan apart from visiting periodically) I know there were GAY BASHERS in the CRC-Eagle-Knight communities, ironically, some of the bashers had their own "skeletons in the closet" so to speak.
Some not only bashed people as "maybe gay" but also used the term "ffo-krej" (spelled backward because it is such a bad work , like the "n word) to malign and marginalize people.
This was very hurtful to some people , and clearly wrong in the Christian community. I know some of these bashers are still around the Eagle-Knight-CRC west Michigan community, and maybe they have disguised their former ugly selves from the "bad ol' days".
To be critical of such ugly hateful bashing persons is GOOD, but at the same time let's not throw the "baby out with the bathwater" so to speak.
Let us NOT legitimize LGBT relationships, but let us NOT be mean hateful bashers either, especially when it is a form of "projection" of one's own problems.
Let's go after these "projecting bashers" who do what they do to take the light off themselves, while at the same time NOT say that sin is ok. Let's try to do "BOTH-AND" ..
