PRAYING FOR MY BELOVED CRC MEMBERS & CALVIN COLLEGE et al to NOT ACQUIESCE TO FAR-LEFT LIBERALISM TO TRY TO BE ‘COOL’:

JESUS SAID: “I pray not that thou should take them out of the world, but that thou should keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

And for their sakes ..."

Fwd: ,search:,1st CRC,Grand Rapids,pentecost,great commission,calvin seminary,christian reformed church,reformed faith ;*read more

5/9/14 re the LATE HARRY BOER (I came across this article,as I was browsing online...having searched "harry boer" because we knew him as a member at 1st CRC in Grand Rapids in his elderly years (1970's) & also b/c as I was working on a project with my mom's old photo album archives I saw a wedding picture of my mom's uncle gene & aunt franny with harry boer as the "best man". Oddly, despite attending 1st crc with him my parents never mentioned any connection to him either familial or theological (maybe they themselves didn't know). But now that I know I feel privileged to be able to learn more about his work & thoughts...I only wish I could have tapped his brain while he was still alive. Like him, I also am interested & active in foreign missions as well, but I never thought of the pentecost as a greater source of inspiration for the mission of the church than the great commission itself. Interesting. It will take me a while to digest his material. Here's a tidbit.

"Boer goes on to try to explain what he
means by this alleged Fundamentalist
tendency in the CRC by claiming that "In
many parts of the church, however, there
has been a loss of appreciation for the
historic correlation between creation and
redemption in the theology and message of
the Scriptures." Having claimed that
Fundamentalism has but one central theme,
redemption, while the Reformed faith has
two central but intimately related themes,
creation. and redemption, he claims that
"The tragedy of Calvin College and Calvin
Theological Seminary is that both schools
have made and continue to make indirect
but broad concessions to the
Fundamentalistic impairment of the
Reformed witness." And he claims that
matters have stood thus for 65 years, i.e.,
ever since the Janssen Case..."

Calvin College - English - Faculty: Gary Schmidt

I had this guy for a Shakespeare class. He used some salty language from time to time like "shoot your wad". Seemed out-of-place.

Calvin College - Economics - Faculty: Rick Devries

Now he's back at Calvin. And I thought he was teaching at Sylvan, but this says he was teaching at Oakdale. His dad was a custodian at our high school back in the 80's.

"Calvin College - Calvin Theatre Company - Tribute to Jim Korf"

His daughter,Lisa, was in my graduating class,1985. I think she thought I was bedazzled by her cuteness, but I came to think of her more as a "sister" in Christ,of sorts,as I saw most of the gals with whom I spent so many years in Christian education. Unfortunately, most of them are "Michigan girls" for life,...you will not find too many willing or courageous enough to leave west Michigan.
