PRAY4

PRAYING FOR MY BELOVED CRC MEMBERS & CALVIN COLLEGE et al to NOT ACQUIESCE TO FAR-LEFT LIBERALISM TO TRY TO BE ‘COOL’:

JESUS SAID: “I pray not that thou should take them out of the world, but that thou should keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

And for their sakes ..."

CALVIN KNIGHT SPORTS REPORT FOR APRIL 13, 2016

Softball Drops Pair to Trine;
Men's Tennis Loses Rivalry Match To Hope

SOFTBALL
Trine 4, Calvin 1
Trine 4, Calvin 3 (8 innings)

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Knights fell short on Wednesday afternoon to Trine on the softball diamond. Trine took game one 4-1 and edged Calvin in eight-innings in the second game, 4-3. The Calvin softball team now stands at 12-10 on the year and is now 2-4 in MIAA play.

"We had our opportunities today," said Calvin head coach Tim Syrek. "Trine is a very good team. We were right there again today and we were just unable to get the job done when we needed to at times. I think there are some positives that will come out of today and we will continue to improve."

The Knights and Thunder found themselves in a defensive battle in game one with both defenses keeping the runs off the scoreboard.

Freshman Anna Gernant (West Des Moines, IA/Valley HS) got herself out of a jam in the second inning, striking out Emily White to leave runners on second and third base for Trine.

Trine scored first, grabbing a run in the fifth inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Thunder would add to their lead in the sixth inning, adding three more runs.

Freshman Kristen Newman (Chelsea/Chelsea HS) put the Knights on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning with a single up the middle the scored senior Ashley Riemersma (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) from second base.

Freshman Maddie DeGroot (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) had a game-high three hits.

Anna Gernant had seven strikeouts in game one.

Ashley Riemersma started game two with a bang. The Calvin senior sent the ball flying over the fence to give Calvin a 1-0 lead in game two.

A three-run fourth inning for the Thunder erased the Calvin lead.

The Knights took advantage of a Trine error in the fifth inning. After a throwing error advanced freshman Rachel Borden (Edwardsbug/Edwardsburg HS) to third base, sophomore Jessica Brasser (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) sent Borden home with a single to centerfield.

Sophomore Kaley Frank (Edwardsburg/Edwardsburg HS) tied the game for the Knights in the sixth inning with a solo blast to straight-away center for her first homerun of the season.

The Thunder got out of a jam in the top of the eighth inning. Leaving Calvin runners on first base and second base.

Kaylee Fox would be the hero for Trine with a triple to score the game-winning run.

The Calvin pitchers had a strong performance in the circle in game two, holding the potent Trine lineup to six hits in eight innings. Both junior Paige Groom (Potterville/Potterville HS) and Anna Gernant recorded five strikeouts.

Ashley Riemersma had three hits for Calvin in game two.

The Knights return to the diamond this Saturday, hosting Kalamazoo College.
